The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, has disclosed that the female lecturer who was beaten to coma is currently stable now, as confirmed in a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, UNILORIN, Mr Kunle Akogun.
The female lecturer beating is from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, identified as Mrs Zakariyyah, the lecturer was allegedly beaten to coma in her office on Thursday by a 400 level student of the institution.
The furious 400 level student, known as Captain Walz, reportedly attacked the lecturer in her office and attacked her, steering to severe injuries.
According to reports gotten, the student had sought the help of the assaulted lecturer, who is his project supervisor, because he did not observe the compulsory Students Industrial Work Scheme.
It was gathered that the student, allegedly entered the lecturer’s office and started banging her table, moved closer to her and started slapping her.
The lecturer was said to try to escape, but the student kept pursuing her as she ran into an office.
As revealed by a source on the terms of being Anonymous,
“Captain Walz broke the window and started punching her hard. In an attempt to escape, the lecturer fell, sustained a head cut and was strangled by the student till she went into a coma.”
However, the statement from the school authorities read,
“This is to confirm that Mrs Zakariyyah is now relatively stable and recuperating after the ugly incident of Thursday where she was attacked by a 400L male student.
“A visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, in the company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Oladiji; the Director, University Health Services, Dr Odunola; and a few other staff to the victim and her family, this morning, Saturday, confirmed that.”
The VC depicted the incident as sad and unfortunate, guaranteeing that justice would be done on the matter as he ordered adequate care of the victim on the bill of the university and reiterated his commitment to the welfare of all staff and law-abiding students of the institution.
Meanwhile, the student has been arrested by the security personnel of the university and handed over to the Police.
